Thoughts on Wimbledon
Just did the gig last night at The Watershed in Wimbledon.
We played well. The new song got a great response. So I'm pleased about that aspect of the night. I didn't think much of the other bands we played with. I can't remember the names of the bands. Probably best.
What's worrying though is that the headline band used our drum kit which clearly has 'The Vibrants' on the kick drum. SO people who watched that band thought they were us! If they had the same impression of that band as I did then they go home thinking 'That band, The Vibrants, weren't much cop were they?'. It wasn't us!
Our next gig in London is on Saturday 26th November at The Halfmoon in Putney. This venue is home from home for us. I love the place. The promoters are great and more often than not, we get a great crowd. I'm trying to write another new song for this show. We've got the music all sorted, I just need to write some lyrics. I'm looking through my notebook for ideas I've jotted down or any themes that may work. It's difficult to write a song backwards like this! The lyrics normally come first for me.
I understand 'In The Attic' was controversial yesterday?! I'm trying to watch it now but it's got an old video of 'Who Are You' running. Is it being edited?
We've got some out of town gigs coming up this month. We're playing at De Montfort University in Leicester on Friday 11th November. University gigs are great. There's a responsive audience who love live music and we just enjoy ourselves. It's great to get out of London and the whole 'How many people are you bringing?' culture.
On Tuesday 22nd November, we're playing in Manchester at a place called 'One Central Street'. The gig is raising money for The Laura Crane Trust. This charity helps young people battle cancer. There's some great bands playing with us and Tony Wilson is presenting the night. Tony Wilson is famous for discovering the Madchester scene, developing the Hacienda night club, bringing on bands such as Joy Division and New Order. There's a movie made about him, '24 Hour Party People'. I'm looking forward to meeting him.
I'm looking forward to this weekend. It's the 1st Round (proper) of the FA Cup. This is 'soccer's best competition in the world. My beloved Swansea City FC are playing away at Stockport. On paper we should win 10-0 but the FA Cup is a great leveler. Also, Wales are playing the mighty New Zealand All Blacks in Rugby Union at the Millennium Staduim. I think Wales will get a complete hiding but I'll enjoy watching none the less.
Have a good weekend whatever you're doing!

Good luck with all your upcoming gigs! Wish I could be there to scream my lungs out!
Glad your gig went well. Your CD should be arriving at my doorstep here on the other side of the Atlantic soon.
Cheers,
AndyW
I was checking to see how the show went. I am glad you did well. I guess you need to sit in front of the drum next time with a sign for their band. Or one that says "Not the Vibrants."

Have a great weekend!

Hi Sam,
yes, In The Attic had some er.. sparks. Pete addressed it on his diary page today. It was more of an off the cuff comment, that caused the controversy.

Looking forward to receiving your EP so I can play it for people.
Good luck with the song and the gigs. If I ever get back to London, will definitely have to catch one of your shows.
They definitely should have had their own drums! I can't believe they would have been so unprofessional.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Sam,
thanks for post. I think Blogger was down earlier today.
I haven't been back to England for must be 10 years now. We were supposed to go for our honeymoon, but we were married one month after 9/11 and went to Mexico on the cheap. I've almost got enough airmiles to put a trip together, so it won't be long.
My entire family emigrated here, although, Mum moved back to Belfast where she is from. My Father and Brother remain out here. I became a citzen in 1998 because I wanted to vote, as did Dad, but my Brother is still not a citizen.
Hope things progress nicely in your music career, sounds like things are off to an excellent start.
Missed you on the attic.
Really, I did.
I finally got someone very special to me, (my cousin) to watch. I told her all about you & you were not there!
Her son was so excited about hearing NEW music.
He said I turned his mom onto something really cool! (IN the Attic)
I'm going to direct him to your site, so he can have a listen.
This kid is a great drummer! (alright, he is my flesh and blood, but I mean it). Anyway, how cool am I that I can turn him onto you guys! Not bad for an old "broad".
Best to you!
Hey, I just listened to 'Run Aground' very cool track!
Sam, very few people leave comments on that blog, I was surprised to see that you'd been there!
I found yer song so inspirational that I spent a couple hours with my guitar yesterday. I'd love to rip some banshee lead guitar over The Vibrants! That would be fun!
Hi Sam,
Well i got a message on my blog from my cousin and her son and they listened to you and thought you were great!! (you are welcome to view their comment)
Now, she hasn't been blogging long, she said she posted a comment to you ( The Vibrants) and I should check it out. Naturally I arrived here, but no comment, maybe she left it on your site. Oh well, welcome to the modern world.

Thanks for the post on my blog. Sorry to hear about your getting burned. That must have been aweful. I dipped my finger into a car battery when I was a small kid, I have no memory of pain or injury, but my parents were pretty freakish about leaving me alone after that. When I had my tonscils out, I escaped from my ward because I believed my Dad was in the same hospital, having broke his leg playing football.
Worst injury for me when I was a kid was having an infected ingrowing big toenail and being taken to frimley park hospital, where a nurse without any medication, stuck a pair of scissors into the end and cut it. Since that time, I've had continued problems with my feet na d a fear of having anything done to them. Until recently that is, I met this really excellent doctor, a specialist who knew what she was doing and did a procedure on it which causes it to grow out correctly. My wife couldn't understand why I would hobble around and have severe pain. I ended up in the emergency room with it infected about a year ago, and they numbed it, and every foot doctor in Orange County was at a convention, every on except this one doctor, man was I glad I found her.
I got your EP that I ordered after listening to you on in the Attic. I enjoy it. You guys have some great stuff. One thing I find interesting is this ska/reggae chord thing that seems to start the songs, but they all end up being really different (hard to explain in text). I like it and think you guys have a lot of potental. If I may offer up some advice--do a couple of acoustic tracks; at least an acoustic track of Beauty. I'm not sure, but I think I enjoyed the live "In the Attic" version better.
Keep at it. I'm excited to see what develops.
Sam I just wanted to invite you to chat with us during the show of In the Attic tomorrow. Or perhaps next week if you can. Many of your new fans come and we have a blast! I am sure they would love to have a chance to ask you a few questions and enjoy your company! It is not often we get the opportunity to be so close to such talents and people we admire and are fans of! Let me know and I can announce you as a special guest on my blog and to Rachel!
I am so excited to get your CD..I actually ordered another just now for my best friend Tracy! We will be rockin' over this side of the Pond for you!
Take care,
Molly
